Week of: 7/25/26

Not much to report. I've finished the first draft of my new story, now looking to edit it into a slightly better shape before sending it off by the end of the month.

Also, reading. Always reading.

Week of: 7/18/26

Status quo. I'm reading far too many books right now -- with more on the horizon as I try to stay ahead of whatever's going to be due back at the library soonest. So, in addition to Middlemarch and Dungeon Crawler Carl (the first of which is plenty), I'm listening to Babel, reading The Philosophy of Freedom by Rudolf Steiner at the behest of a friend, Gwendy's Final Task, and The Judas Goat (one of Robert Parker's Spenser detective novels).

So what did I do this evening? Grab a few more books from the library, of course!

For writing, I'm working on editing a draft for a story that I hope to submit by the end of this month.

Week of: 7/11/26

A quiet week, not much to report. No rejections (knock on wood), but that's certainly balanced out by the week prior.

In reading news, I've been reading a lot -- maybe too much. Alongside my Summer Reading project, I've also taken up Dungeon Crawler Carl, which I understand to be the current hotness. With that project, I've begun upon Middlemarch. I'm sure I'll have more to say on it later, and after I've finished, but thus far I can simply report that... I'm not sure I quite get it. Oh, it's fine, I suppose. There are characters having conversations, etc., and it's fairly cozy. I'm not hating it. But at the same time, I'm not sure I yet understand its great and enduring appeal. Perhaps that's an insight yet to come.

Week of: 7/4/26

Lots of rejections this week, what fun!

Sometimes I feel a bit like Eleanor Rigby -- writing here, writing the stories I do, and sending them out. Who is it for, I wonder? Though that's a more negative energy than I'd ordinarily like to maintain.

In a slightly more positive light, I showed up to my one-time writing workshop group, the Wordos. It remains to be seen whether I'll keep that up, but it's a nice idea. I've been reading yet another how-to-write book, Bird by Bird. And speaking of reading, I've finished Anna Karenina (and then I started and finished Mother Night)! So even if nobody buys my stories, or gets to read them, hey, at least I'm doing my part by continuing to read!
